All English learners find English pronunciation a challenge and this is a helpful group which offers you support in a friendly way. This helps you express yourself better.

This is an English speaking course as learning the elements of pronunciation helps you become fluent. Grammar and vocabulary are important, but the next step is for you to sound more natural when speaking English. The idea the group pronunciation class is for you to learn about phonetics, stress, intonation and connected speech in a friendly way and to help you integrate these elements into your natural speech.

This group will help you if English is your second language. When you learn pronunciation and apply it in an English speaking course will help you make connections with native English speakers. This is important when you want to make friends and also when you want to get a job you really want. There are two ways of booking your English pronunciation class:

1. You can use our booking system on meetup.com. There you can select the classes you wish to attend pay for the class online. Payment is made via PayPal but you can also use your credit or debit card if you do not have a PayPal account. To use this you will need to have a meetup profile, so if you are not a member of Meetup.com you will need to join.

How do the pronunciation classes work?

The lessons are focused on improving your pronunciation in a small group of up to 8 students. We hold daily sessions – the first taking you through a syllabus covering phonetics, connected speech, stress and intonation, the second applying these principles to more natural conversation. These classes suit students with upper-intermediate+ level English. You only pay per session, so you can try it out, paying only for the classes you attend.

What will I learn?

We have a particular focus each day, and you will find that the issues of pronunciation overlap each other. As these are small groups, there is enough opportunity to discuss your personal pronunciation issues from class to class. We are using the book ‘Ship or Sheep’. This book takes you through the sounds of English day by day. In a typical class you may focus on the distinction between two sounds. You will find that some of the sounds are difficult for you because of you do not have them in your native language. You will also find some of the sounds easier and this is not a problem as you will then be able to focus more on the issues of connected speech, word stress and intonation. These are important elements of pronunciation which can make a real difference.

How do I pay?

You need to pay in advance and you can do this via Meetup.com which uses PayPal, even if you do not have a PayPal account. If you prefer to make your booking in any other way you can pay via bank transfer. You will receive details of how to do this when you make your booking. Once you come to class you can pay for any future lessons by cash if you wish.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

If you wish to cancel after payment, you may do so with at least 24 hours notice and your payment will be transferred to another class.

What is the difference between English Pronunciation Lesson and Pronunciation for Fluency?

English Pronunciation Lesson is more of a structured pronunciation class and follows a syllabus covering the sounds of English and helps you to make more English-sounding connections and intonation.

Pronunciation for Fluency continues the content from the first class, applying it into more natural conversation. It is more of an opportunity for you to speak freely with pronunciation corrections, in particular improving the way you deliver a sentence in English, showing you where you could have connected your speech to make you more fluent, and how your stress and intonation can make you sound more English.

Most students take both classes as they compliment each other. Please feel free to try any or both and see what works best for you.

What are PLUS courses?

The PLUS courses take place on Saturday mornings and weekday evenings. As these classes are at peak hours and are longer (an hour and a half) they incur a higher fee of £8. However, you will only be charged £7 per class when booking 5 or more classes. Please see our terms and conditions for further details.
